Example of "Stress Analysis"

 

This type of analysis is best to do on paper, anytime you are worried, stressed or fearful about a certain topic or area of your life.  Once you have something like this on paper, if you come back to worrying again, you can remind yourself "hey, I already analyzed this extensively, there is no reason for me to worry about this anymore, I just need focus on the action steps I determined."

 

Subject stressing/worrying/causing anxiety/fear:

The Move

 

What is stressing me - situations or thoughts *Inside my control or outside of my control? Resolution - Thing I can do/defer/forget about
Lots of paperwork needed for mortgage guy Inside -I have the paperwork, just need to gather and send
Closing date not firm Outside -waiting for mortgage guy to get back to me on bridge loan

-defer

Don't have movers Inside my control -want to wait until know close date

-defer until have close date

How will animals be moved? Inside -I'll figure it out as time moves closer

-I always take care of my animals so I trust I will do whatever is necessary to make it as easy as possible

-defer until mid-Sept

Keeping new carpet perfect Some inside/mostly outside - will do my best, that's all I can do
This is more than I can handle, I might go crazy Outside - I have a mental breakdown or I don't - I can't control that  - I have handled everything fine so far

- Worst parts are past me now

- Remind myself to take things one step at a time, consult this list, and by October it will all be done

-Get moral support from family and friends when needed

I might not like the new house, may be too small Outside -Did the best I could to fit my values

-can build on if we need to

-will put items in storage if need to

-forget about it

Mom and other family members may bother me too much at new house (i.e. unscheduled drop ins) Outside if they try/Inside if I put up boundary or not - Have already established boundary

- They know I run a business from home

- I am good at boundaries, so no reason to think I won't be good this time

- Don't answer door when working

- Forget about it unless have problem

     

Conclusions - Things I can do right now:

-Do best I can on carpet

-Gather paperwork for mortgage guy

-Get moral support if needed

-Don't worry about rest
